Virtual Private Servers (VPS)
Web Hosting Defined

Virtual Private Servers, or VPS, make it possible to put your website into its own machine without the cost and the space of a full dedicated web server. VPS can be considered virtual machines, which appears as though they own the entire server. Each VPS has a certain amount of disk space, RAM and bandwidth allocated to it.

VPS web hosting provides their customers with complete control over their VPS, allowing them root access (or administrator's access). With VPS you can typically host unlimited number of domains that you need as well as install and run any software you want into your VPS. Virtual Private servers basically gives you the ownership to what ever you like in your space, you will be the boss of your own domain.

Even though Virtual Private Servers have some benefits over dedicated servers, if you have a very busy website that requires a lot of bandwidth and which has outgrown your shared web hosting then you should consider a dedicated server as well.

So how do you know if your site requires a Virtual private servers?  Well it is not easy to decide but essentially if you have a busier site that has outgrown the bandwidth of your shared hosting but is not quite large enough for a dedicated server then VPS's are the middle of the road solution.  Virtual Private Servers cost less than dedicated hosting but they still provide independence from other customers of the VPS service in software terms. With VPS customers have super user-level access to the operating system instance and can install almost any software that runs on the OS. The downfall with VPS is that there is some software that does not run well in it (such as firewalls and anti-virus) and they
usually have limited processor time, RAM, and disk space.  But VPS's are typically more relaxed when compared to shared web hosting.
